Chickasaw Nation News

In this episode of CNTV News, Brad Clonch and Quin Tran appear at the Chokma'si Gallery, housed in the Chickasaw Nation Arts & Humanities building in Ada. Featuring rotating art exhibits and a gift shop with fine Chickasaw handicrafts, this is a wonderful location in which to connect with the tribe's artistic legacy. One traveling exhibit that is carrying that legacy beyond the borders of Chickasaw Country is "Visual Voices: Contemporary Chickasaw Art." Comprising over 60 individual artworks ranging from traditional to abstract forms, each piece tells its own story about being Chickasaw. The exhibit will soon appear in Jackson, Miss.; to learn more, visit www.ChickasawArtists.com. In Stillwater, the Center for Sovereign Nations at Oklahoma State University celebrated its third birthday with booths on campus providing information about the organization. The Center provides resources and services for Native American students to help adjust to college life, connect with their peers and work toward future success. East Central University in Ada hosted a Chickasaw Appreciation Day recently during an ECU football game. Gov. Bill Anoatubby was present, and students from the Chickasaw Nation's youth martial arts program provided a demonstration. November is Native American Heritage Month, a perfect time to experience the beautiful scenery and vibrant culture of Chickasaw Country.
