Chickasaw Nation News

In this episode of CNTV News, Brad Clonch and Quin Tran introduce a segment on a pottery art exhibit currently on display at the Chickasaw Cultural Center. "Sculpting Cultures: Southeast and Southwest Native Pottery Exhibit" celebrates the skill and diversity in Native pottery traditions, both old and new. The exhibit provides insight into the different designs and symbols employed by southwestern and southeastern Native peoples. Chickasaw textile artist Margaret Roach Wheeler, widely recognized for her weaving and knowledge of ancient techniques, was the recipient of a Governor's Arts Award this year. And Chickasaw Nation Governor Bill Anoatubby welcomed veterans to a special luncheon in their honor, the first event held in the new Veterans Lodge in Ada. This 15,000-square-foot facility serves as a gathering place for veterans and a source for information about programs and services. Barry Switzer's wife, Becky, presented the Chickasaw Nation with two rescue dogs as part of an initiative by the Switzers' Ground Zero Emergency Training Center to provide dogs to work with emergency responders. The dogs, Sven and Roxxi, were presented to Adam Kuhlman of the Chickasaw Nation Emergency Management Division in a "Passing of the Leash" ceremony.
