Chickasaw Nation News

In this episode of CNTV News, Brad Clonch and Quin Tran report on the opening of a new art exhibit at the Gaylord-Pickens Museum in Oklahoma City. "IKBI: Chickasaws and Choctaws Sharing Our Culture Through History and Art" celebrates the shared heritage of the two tribes with displays of pottery, paintings, beadwork and more. Gov. Bill Anoatubby spoke at the opening ceremony of the exhibit, which features the talents of three dozen artists and runs through September 22. The title word "ikbi" means "to create" in both Chickasaw and Choctaw. In other news, Thackerville was the site for two recent annual conferences. The Chickasaw Elders Conference and the Chickasaw Veterans Conference provided an opportunity for both groups to build relationships while learning about the programs and services offered by the Chickasaw Nation. The Chickasaw Children's Choir and the Chickasaw Honor Guard gave a stirring performance at the Veterans Conference, and Gov. Anoatubby had speaking engagements at both events. Finally, Oklahoma State University hosted its annual N7 Field Day at the main campus in Stillwater. This is part of a movement sponsored by Nike to cultivate sports for youth in Native American communities. Catering to kids from 3rd to 8th grade and offering them the chance to meet student athletes who serve as role models, OSU's event was founded in 2015 by student Lana Duke. The first N7 Field Day held at OSU brought in 100 participants, and this year's event hosted 400. Brad and Quin conclude with a segment profiling the remarkable work that Duke, a Chickasaw citizen, had performed as an athlete and a community ambassador.
