Chickasaw Nation News

In this episode of CNTV News, Brad Clonch and Quin Tran announce that another team of students from the Chickasaw Nation STEM Academy has taken part in a worldwide competition. Tashka Tali, whose name is Chickasaw for "Metal Warrior," competed in the VEX Robotics World Championships in Lexington, Kentucky. The seventh- and eighth-graders were recognized on behalf of the Chickasaw Nation, one of over 30 nations participating in the event. In other news, a female bald eagle was released into the wild at the Chickasaw Cultural Center after being nursed back to health by WildCare Oklahoma. The site was chosen in part because it is located only a few miles from the eagle's natural habitat. Visitors to the Chickasaw Cultural Center this summer are encouraged to stop by the Butterfly Garden and see the majestic monarch butterflies. With the monarch population on the decline nationwide, Chickasaws have been planting milkweed and nectar-rich plants throughout Chickasaw Country to help the butterflies to thrive. Another visit behind the scenes of the feature film Te Ata examines the role of authentic props provided by Chickasaw citizens. Star Q'orianka Kilcher talks about some of the artifacts that she used in the filming of the movie, including a concha belt that belonged to Te Ata herself and was provided by the storyteller's great-nephew.
