Chickasaw Nation News

In this episode of CNTV News, Brad Clonch and Quin Tran announce that Chickasaw Nation Nutrition Services is preparing to launch a summer food program for children ages 1 to 18. In partnership with the USDA, this initiative will provide sack lunches as part of an effort to instill healthy eating habits. McKae Goetzinger, Summer Food Coordinator, points out that teaching kids how to eat properly is effective at preventing many of the issues that afflict Native youth and adults. For more information on the program, call Nutrition Services at (580) 436-7255. Medical facilities across the Chickasaw Nation hosted a series of small health fairs designed to promote information about such topics as nutrition, fitness, diabetes and mental health. And coming up soon, the Artesian Arts Festival is one of the fastest-growing Native American art events in the country, with over 8,000 people attending last spring and over 100 Native artists showcasing their work. The festival will take place Saturday, May 26 at the Artesian Plaza in Sulphur; it is open to the public at no charge. Another look behind the scenes of the feature film Te Ata features interviews with several of the child actors on the set.
