Chickasaw Nation News

In this new episode of CNTV News, Brad Clonch and Quin Tran introduce us to Katie Callaway, a Chickasaw citizen who serves as a Thunder Girl on the Oklahoma City Thunder’s dance team. Katie, who grew up in Ada with a strong sense of her Chickasaw roots, says she's blessed to have this special experience and to be able to mentor young girls in the community with dance dreams of their own. Next we travel to the Artesian Hotel in Sulphur, which will play a part in the upcoming Dynamic Women of the Chickasaw Nation Conference. For the first time, the evening forum, scheduled for April 17, will take place at the Chickasaw Cultural Center. The conference, open to the public, recognizes the strength, leadership and talents of Chickasaw women from all walks of life. The Chickasaw Cultural Center also recently hosted the Oklahoma Indian Challenge Bowl, an academic competition that quizzes Oklahoma Indian students in the 7th through 12th grades on such tribal topics as native history, culture, people and language. The Chickasaw Community Center recently held an education fair that presented information on local universities, community and regional colleges and career and technical institutions to interested students. Finally, the Nation reminds students that the Chickasaw Foundation's 2014-2015 comprehensive scholarship application is now available and is due May 30.
