Chickasaw Nation News

In this episode of CNTV News, Brad and Quin begin the episode with an update on COVID vaccinations in the Chickasaw Nation and the expanded eligibility. Vaccinations are administered at Chickasaw Nation drive-through testing sites located at the Chickasaw Nation Medical Center in Ada and health clinics in Ardmore, Purcell and Tishomingo. Health care officials encourage those who have recently had COVID-19 to get the vaccine as soon as they recover. There is no 90-day wait period unless the person received treatment for COVID-19 such as monoclonal antibodies or convalescent plasma. Vaccines are available by appointment only and can be scheduled at www.covidvaccine.chickasaw.net. The Chickasaw Nation COVID-19 Vaccine Call Center is also available to assist senior citizens and those without internet access. To reach the COVID-19 Vaccine Call Center, please call (580) 272-1339, Monday through Friday from 8 am to 3 pm.

We are approaching the one year mark in our fight against COVID-19. Over this past year, we've met Chickasaw citizens who have shared their stories of recovery. One such citizen is Kinsha Walker, a nurse and COVID survivor from Louisiana. Working on the frontlines, she contracted COVID-19 in the early days of the pandemic. Quin checks in with Kinsha for an update on her recovery and her continued work helping COVID patients as a traveling nurse. Over the next several months, CNTV News will salute Chickasaw Nation health care heroes by sharing a series of interviews with people serving on the frontlines and those supporting the medical teams. In this episode, Brad and Quin introduce Chickasaw citizen and nurse Rachael Collins who has made sacrifices to serve as a surge nurse at the Chickasaw Nation Medical Center.

In other news, the Chickasaw Nation is accepting nominations for the 2021 Dynamic Woman of the Year Award. The nomination application is available online at www.chickasaw.net/dynamicaward. Chickasaw women who are selected for the honor have inspired and created opportunities for others. March 14 is the deadline to submit nominations. March is Women's History Month and it's a time to recognize the contributions that women have made to our communities. Chickasaw citizen Dr. Suzanne Van Cooten speaks to Quin about how she's used her curiosity for science to blaze a trail for women in her field.
