Chickasaw Nation News

In this episode of CNTV News, Quin Tran and special summer guest host Dustin Newport take us first to Sulphur, Oklahoma, for the first annual Artesian Arts Festival. The exciting new event featured pieces from a variety of Southeastern tribal artists, as well as live music, interactive demonstrations, a food court and more. Chickasaw Nation summer camps are in full swing and two of the more popular ones are Chikashshaat Hoochokoshkomo (“Chickasaws are playing”), in which children learn traditional games; and Camp Survivor, a wellness camp promoting physical, mental, cultural and spiritual health. The Chickasaw Nation will soon begin production on a feature film about the life of Te Ata Thompson Fisher, famed Chickasaw storyteller and entertainer. Finally, we travel to Moore, Oklahoma, for a heartbreaking yet hopeful story. Focusing on family has helped the Roberts family rebuild their lives since the deadly May 20, 2013 tornado destroyed their home, neighborhood and school. The family of eight has since rebuilt, though the experience was markedly bittersweet.
